Calico Joe
Hey guys! Recently, I have been reading a book called "Calico Joe". This book is about an eleven year-old boy named Paul Tracey whose dad played for a baseball team called the Mets. There was a very good rookie baseball player for the Cubs at the time named Calico Joe. He was a brilliant baseball player who had good morals, ethics, and talent. Paul really did not like his dad because he was a jerk, was constantly drunk, and got in many arguements with many people.
Like Paul's dad, Paul was a pretty good baseball player himself. He and his dad were both pitchers and struck many batters out. This book reminds me of a book that I had read called "Heat". Both books revolved around baseball and both of the main characters had very diffiult home lives. Also, both main characters lived in New York!
Warren Tracey, Paul's dad, was a pretty mean guy. For instance, Warren ended Calico Joe's career by hitting him in the head on purpose. Warren did this because Joe did a fist-pump while rounding the bases after he hit a home-run.Warren was such a jerk that he would not admit that he hit Joe on purpose. Paul hated his dad even more after this because Calico Joe was his idol. This could be similar to one of you family members giving someone like LeBron James or Josh Hamilton permanant brain damage and everyone hating you! In some of my baseball games, I have also been hit by what I think were about personal reasons. Has this ever happened to you? Have a good summer and stay tuned for the ending of "Saavy"!

Avoid the acts, but read the book!
Hey guys! Have you ever done any daring things? Such as doing a belly-flop off of a high-dive or purposely separating yourself from your parent's in an amusement park to ride one ride? If you have, you need to read this blog.
In the book,"Saavy", there are two main characters, Fish and Mibs. In the beginning of the story, their Father is severely injured in a car crash. So, Mibs is about to turn 13, which is the birthday in which she recieves her saavy; her super-power. She thinks that she may be able to save her Father with her saavy. So she and Fish sneak onto a delivery bus in hopes that it will take them to the hospital where her father is hanging onto life by a thread. That is daring, isn't it? Fish, Mib's older brother, has already recieved his saavy, creating hurricanes, and causes a hurricane inside a truck-stop to try to protect a lady from a mean man. As you can see, the main characters in this story pull off some life-threatening and dangerous stunts.
I have done some pretty dangerous stunts in my life-time as well. Many of my dangerous stunts involved a bike or dog and resulted very badly for me. One time, I tried to ride my dog like a horse. My dog stood up on his hind legs and I fell off and hit my head on the concrete. Another time, I tried to ride my bike down a forty-foot tall dirt hill. That resulted in me flipping over the handle-bars and nearly breaking my neck. Then one time I decided to jump over a fence to try to pet a dog that looked really friendly. I did not know that pit bulls can be ferocious, slobbering, nasty, mean dogs. So, when I tried to pet the dog, he bit and scratched my legs and arm. This was the first time I had ever wrestled a dog; sadly, I lost. You might think I am quite stupid to do all of these things, but in all of these actions I either was too young to know better, or had an adult with me. Thanks to my youngness and adults, I get beat to pieces.
Do Fish and Mib find their father in time to save him?? Stay tuned...
