I recently read the Hunger Games then was able to see the movie about the book at the movie theater.  I really liked the movie since it was pretty consistent to the book.  The book is one of my favorite books because I love action/adventure books and this one has lots of both.

Katniss Everdeen is a tom-boy that spends most of her days in the woods with her best friend Gale killing small animals for food for her family to eat and to sell in the black market in their village.  She has a hard heart partly to do with her father being killed in a coal mine.  Katniss' mother went into a deep depression and could not function, so she was forced to care for her three-member family.  At the age of 14, she had to grow up and experienced the hardship of adulthood long before her time. While she is not made to be a very likable character, you can't help but feel pity for her situation and I ended up respecting her in the end because she did what she had to do to take care of her family and the one other person she loved, Gale.

I think the producers of the movie cast Katniss' character pretty well, her looks weren't exactly as I had imagined but the actress was able to portray her character perfectly.  The way the setting is made in the movie is interesting and I found that my interpretation of the books descriptions of some things were different that the director's.  For example, the cornucopia in the arena was not as I expected, it was more modern looking and I imagined it to look more like a cornucopia that you would see on a Thanksgiving table.  Something else I thought was interesting was how they made the outfits for Katniss and Peeta for the opening ceremony.  They were made to look like they were on fire but in the movie I didn't think they looked like they were engulfed in flames like the book described.

Overall, I think the movie was very well done and I would recommend the book and the movie to all of my friends (unless you have a weak stomach and can't handle violent scenes).
